Melissa announces her first collaboration with Viktor & Rolf
Continuing their fashion partnerships, Melissa teamed up with edgy fashion label Viktor & Rolf for an accessory collaboration that debuted at the Viktor & Rolf Haute Couture SS20 show earlier this year.
With this collaboration, Viktor & Rolf reimagined Melissa's iconic silhouettes and revived the styles with an ultra-feminine textured twist. The Melissa/Viktor & Rolf collaboration features the ' Possession ', Melissa's most iconic shoe, along with a Broderie Anglaise inspired ' Lace Bag '. The palette ranges from soft blue to pink, gold, black and white, complemented by gloss and matte finishes.
An elevated take on nostalgic style, the selection is made up of Melissa's MELFEX material, (the brand's signature vegan and 100% recyclable material used in all Melissa products) resulting in chic and conscious footwear and accessories.
The Melissa/Viktor & Rolf collaboration costs € 99 for the shoes and € 149 for the bag. The full selection of styles and colorways will arrive in stores and online on July 16.
Loosely inspired by Viktor & Rolf's childhood memories of Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House on the Prairie" and the eponymous 70s illustration character by Denise Holly Hobbie-Ulinskas, the Spring/Summer 2020 Haute Couture has a air of sweet poetry and innocent romance.
Parade:
Having nearly sold out of stock at their previous haute couture shows, Viktor & Rolf turned to their archive of fabric swatches: tiny pieces of fabric, sent to the Maison over the years for examination during the process of development of their collections. From these archives, Viktor & Rolf has selected some of the most luxurious fabric samples that together make up this collection.
Historically, the patchwork technique was born out of frugal necessity: old garments were cut into patches and sewn back into decorative designs, to be reused. By reusing their samples of high-end couture fabrics, Viktor & Rolf create a surreal paradox that underlines the beauty of imperfection. This collection highlights the creative principle of conscious design. Do more with less; constraints providing a springboard for meaningful creation. Previous Haute Couture collections (such as Vagabonds, Action Dolls and Spiritual Glamour) used
an archive of Viktor & Rolf stock fabrics, often dating back 20-25 years.
The collection features a series of voluminous and flowing dresses and capes, embellished with tiers, ruffles and crochet braids. Ranging from floor-to-calf to ultra-mini, several outfits are complemented by surreal, wide-brimmed, spontaneously shaped hats. Elaborate glamorous makeup is juxtaposed with fake tattoos, proclaiming messages of love and happiness.
Melissa shoes and bags - made from vegan recyclable plastic - complete this season's look in a variety of pastel shades. Melissa's iconic jelly shoe and wicker bag silhouette are reimagined with romantic yet edgy Broderie Anglaise lace detailing.
