the cosmetics industry is improving and we love it!

Eco-consciousness is booming. From your @melissashoesfrance shoes, to your favorite coffee shop, to your vegan bakery, to supermarkets unveiling new meals to eat for dinner, following a plant-based diet has never been easier.

Today, the cosmetics industry is doing it. Skincare, hair and makeup, there has been a shift in what consumers want in their products and what they don't – namely animal-derived ingredients. Vegan product launches increased 175% in the five years to 2018, the Soil Association said.

Vegan, cruelty-free makeup artist @Em-J thinks it's down to clients wanting more transparency. "We've trusted these giant brands for so long, but thanks to social media, we've discovered a lot of things left unsaid."

It's been great for the beauty industry, she adds, paving the way for new indy brands. “We trust them because they speak directly to customers and are open and honest about their ethics and ingredients.”

Here are some responsible brands:

BECO

Better Considered , or Beco for short, is a small brand doing big things - 80% of Beco employees are visually impaired or otherwise disabled. From its factory in East London , the brand produces soaps, hand washes and now even shampoos. Packed with luxe ingredients like wild berries, honey, and flowers, each bar is handmade and hand-cut, and did we mention they smell amazing?

EVOLVE

All Evolve products are handcrafted in small batches from its Hertfordshire studio to keep waste to a minimum. From skincare to body care, you'll find everything you'll need to stock your bathroom cabinet, including hydrating serums, lip balms and tinted SPHs.

MILK MAKEUP

Milk Makeup is a 100% vegan, paraben-free brand. The majority of its products come in solid stick form — with everything from bronzers and cheek tints to pore-blurring primers and cooling masks. It's a dream to travel with.

NAILBERRY

For your nails? Nailberry is a brand of nail polish that is not only vegan, but also Halal and cruelty-free. It started as an independent nail salon, but has since released a slew of polishes in a rainbow of shades, and which aim to combat the damage caused by gel manicures and bad habits, following customer feedback.

KEVIN MURPHY

And to finish ? Your hair ! Kevin Murphy the sulphate-free, paraben-free, animal cruelty-free hair care brand! They maintain their commitment to the environmental issues that affect us all. They create products using recyclable or biodegradable packaging. They use only sulfate-free surfactants that effectively cleanse and remove surface oil and dirt, without stripping or stripping hair of color. We use AHAs, or fruit acids, derived from papaya, citrus fruits and sugar cane which gently exfoliate the surface of the hair without drying or exhausting the hair. Natural surfactants from soapbark tree, quillaja and other plant sources create rich, luxurious lathers that hydrate and nourish hair.
