Founded in 2019 by Isabella Weatherby, the brand focuses on reasonably priced '70s-inspired jumpsuits in satin and velvet that flatter the shape and flatter the behind. The fabrics are sourced from the UK and the pieces are made by a small team based in South London. What's not to like?
Before the brand, the founder studied politics and international relations at university, so nothing to do with fashion. She then continued to work in the field of international relations until she made the leap to follow her dream and dedicate her time to Peachy Den in January 2019. She says her “naivete helped her launch her idea, because she could focus on her vision, rather than being held back by the technical aspects of the design. As she becomes more informed and the brand grows, the decisions are definitely more daunting.”
It is a brand that was born from his personal desire. She felt that there weren't enough brands of high quality pants that “fit” really well. So it all started with just one pair - flared and perfectly fitted with an elastic waistband. The result was pants that transformed her bottom into a “peachy” bottom hence the name of the brand.
The brand sources and produces everything in the UK. Isabella says she has struggled to source sustainable fine fiber fabrics in the UK. In the future, they are looking to obtain fabrics with a higher content of natural fibers and recycled fabrics and for this they are looking to the EU and Japan.
To minimize their carbon footprints and waste, their studios and makers are based within 2 miles of each other in South London. There are plenty of high quality makers in the UK - and ultimately it's more expensive "but we love local craftsmanship and the support of our community".
Right now, they're donating the proceeds from their scrunchie sales to charity. Each month they choose a different local charity to support. To launch the benefits, they chose the Bay Tree Centre, a social inclusion charity for women and girls, based in the heart of Brixton.
