At the end of the Coperni Spring/Summer 2023 fashion show, model Bella Hadid entered the textiles room, wearing only nude-coloured underwear. In front of a group of scientists, Hadid was sprayed with a white liquid that instantly transformed into a dress made of a Jersey-like fabric.

For the closing of their parade, the creators of the Parisian brand Coperni have chosen the beautiful Bella Hadid to present their last piece of the show. Standing for 15 minutes on a lighted platform, Gigi Hadid's sister surrounded by a team of people holding spray guns had a white substance sprayed on her body to form the outline of a dress. A performance that went viral on Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.
Fabrican technology used by Coperni
Designers Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant are the brains behind ultra-modern Parisian label Coperni . During their runway show at Paris Fashion Week 2022, the duo pushed the boundaries of fashion technology beyond imagination, using the spray-on technique which was pioneered by Fabrican, a company founded by Spanish fashion designer and scientist Manel Torres.
This technology consists in producing a non-woven fabric, from a liquid composed of cotton, wool or synthetic fibers sprayed using a spray gun directly on the body. After its contact with the skin, the substance transforms into a fabric ready to be worn and which can be reused.
Tribute to the performance of Alexander McQueen 1999
There were immediate links to another moment in fashion history: Alexander McQueen's Spring 1999 show, when Shalom Harlow's dress was spray-painted by robots. It looked the same, but it was different. It took about 15 minutes, but when the men were done spraying a dress, a woman came to cut a slit and pulled down Hadid's sleeves to give her an off-the-shoulder look. As Hadid walked away, the dress moved with her.
